God, it's going to take forever to get to Dr. Psycho.

Eh. Diana, Cheetah and Nubia are done and just need to be restored, Circe will probably be relatively short, and I don't think Cassie's got more than five chapters in her, so she's half done already too. And I'm probably not going to go sequential this time - there's some cross-linking I want to do this time around that will require some Cheetah posts to go up before the WWwA is done, etc - so I'll probably start Artemis and Psycho long before I finish Donna. (Donna, I imagine, will be especially rambling and casual, as there's no easy CoIE-to-ICk arc to trace the way there is with the rest of them - so no reason for that to actually hold up any more organized project).

I notice you use a wider variety of icons here than on LJ - I take it the limits are more generous?

A plus account at LJ gets you 15 userpics. A free account at IJ gets you 100.

Just my $0.02, but I think Amazon in training would be better. More weildy.

Adoptive Amazon is alliterative, succinct, therefore superior.

Considering they're all called "sisters" it makes sense anyway.

Man, I absolutely love what you're doig with WW, this is a great collection of stuff you're putting up. I'm asking you for a little help, though. Putting the tags under in-joke: was a mistake on my part, I just couldn't think of a category for it. I apologize if it seemed like I was disrespecting what you want to do. I did think of something that could work though. I'd like to place it under series: instead. Would you mind going through and editing the tags appropriately if you agree to it? I'm just trying to keep the tags from looking like my kid's bedroom again, and every little bit helps. It gets abit overwhelming.

Oh, no, I didn't think it was disrespectful at all. I do feel the current tag system is a bit full of kinks yet, though. Categories for some tags makes sense - characters, series and the like - but stuff like in-jokes, context is for the weak, people playing around, tags that are patterns ("X doesn't work that way," "Y doesn't work that way," "NOTHING WORKS THAT WAY"), stuff like that can stand on its own, since it's not really something you're searching, it's a form of commentary on the post itself.

At any rate, last I heard [info]rabican and [info]schmevil still hadn't finished working out what the system should be entirely. "Series: " seems like a good bet for stuff like the Super Steph posts or World of Wondy, but I don't want to change it all and then find out they've decided on something else and then have to change it all back *again* - actually I'm going to PM Schmevil I think and see where we're at with that right now, whynot.

Wonder Woman Animated Movie

Hey Bluefall!

Forgive my poor use of sentence structure. I have a question regarding your thoughts on the new Wonder Woman in the animated movie that was recently released. Every review I've read says that the movie stays true to her character, but when I got around to watching it, nothing really seemed to match from everything you've posted about her. Did you ever watch the movie and make a post with your viewpoints regarding her portrayal in it? I don't see anything I like about Wonder Woman in this movie that I've enjoyed in your Wonder Woman posts yet every review is saying the movie is true to her character.

Thanks

A Question, Milady...

Hail She of the Azure Cascade *bows* I recently watched Linkara's review of Shamazons and the prologue got me wondering: What's the title of the book on philosophy Diana penned? (I admit, it's for a fanfic... one I might end up sending to you to see if I wrote Diana properly). Any help would be much appreciated, and keep up the grand work

The book is called Reflections: A Collection of Essays and Speeches by Diana of Themyscira. Presumably usually referred to as just "Reflections" (it certainly is by me - I had to go dig out my trade to look up the subtitle). The cover art is by Kyle Rayner and the publisher is Carelton Group Publishing, if you end up needing the really insignificant minutiae. ^.^

Glad to be of service, the world needs more Diana fic. Anything else you need to know, please do ask.

Thanks a ton. *scuffs feet and looks sheepish* Technically it's a fic where Diana co-stars with my main City of Villains character, but I still want to get her characterization right.

Has the Amazon style of hand-to-hand combat ever been looked at in any detail or even given a name? I'm guessing it'd be similar to ancient Greek Pancratium, but I figured I'd ask

Not that I've ever seen. It's possible there was a word for it pre-Crisis, but unlikely; Marston's style would be more to call it "a special Amazon martial art form!" and post-Marston, nobody ever really played up the Amazons-as-warriors bit (to the point where she had to learn Asian combat from I Ching during the pantsuit era).

If you want to base it on what we've seen in the comics, rather than what makes sense for a greek-derived society of female warriors (which honestly, I can't recommend), though, she's a straight boxer with a side of judo. Her style, when she actually has any, is upper-body-centric, with very, very occasional basic throws, virtually no locks or close strikes (I'm not sure I've seen her throw an elbow once in twenty years of canon), no blocks whatsoever (except against projectiles, obviously), and lots of punching.

(Kind of exactly like every other superhero.)

My extrapolation from what we know of their culture, though, yeah, would put them closer to pankration, though probably softer and with a greater emphasis on legwork (a supposition somewhat borne out by Polly's fight with Herc in the first ish, at least).

I was pretty sure Diana couldn't escape using Smash-Fu (the style just about everyone with super strength relies on) but I thought I'd ask just to be sure. As always, good to know and thanks for the info =D
